At Kindred Land Management, we believe in the profound connection between people and the places they cherish. Our mission is to help landowners achieve their goals while creating thriving, sustainable ecosystems that leave the environment better off than it was when we started.
By blending science-based solutions with a deep respect for the land, we provide thoughtful, personalized plans that foster a harmonious balance between a client’s aspirations and the environment’s needs.
To that end, Kindred is about more than just resource management – it’s about forging partnerships that honor the legacy of the land and secure its future for generations to come.
Whether it’s restoring habitats, improving biodiversity, or simply helping landowners reconnect with the natural world, we approach every project with a dedication to quality, professionalism, and sustainability. Together, we work to create something extraordinary – landscapes that inspire, sustain, and endure.
Josh Oates grew up in a small town in southern Indiana, but has called Franklin, Tennessee, home since 2013. A former U.S. Naval Officer and healthcare technology executive with venture capital and private equity experience, Josh decided to take a bold step – turning his lifelong passion for nature into a mission-driven business.
For Josh, Kindred Land Management is about more than work – it’s a way to create lasting impact. “I derive so much joy and peace from being out in the woods. It’s where I feel most connected – to my kids, to the environment, and to the future.” This connection drives his commitment to preserving and enhancing native ecosystems, ensuring his children and future generations can experience that same sense of wonder.
Seeing a gap in the industry, where native habitat management was often treated as a sideline, Josh envisioned Kindred as a partner to landowners, providing dedicated and data-driven solutions to restore and protect the land. “If we don’t take care of it, it won’t be there for the next generation. That’s what gets me out of bed every morning.”
When he’s not working, Josh enjoys spending time with his wife Rachel and their three kids. “We love basically any outdoor activity – hiking, kayaking, skiing, you name it.” He’s also passionate about giving back to his community through volunteering and supporting local nonprofits.
Raised in the north Chicago suburbs and on her family’s 90-year-old farm in Princeton, Illinois, Greta Flaig developed a deep connection to the land. Growing up, she spent countless hours walking the cornfields and woods of rural Illinois – a practice that fostered a lifelong love and understanding of the outdoors.
Greta earned her BS in Natural Resource Management with a concentration in Forestry from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. From there she embarked on a multi-faceted career as a fisheries biologist, prairie ecologist, land manager, and urban forester. But it wasn’t just her expertise that led her to co-found Kindred Land Management – it was her connection to the land’s power and beauty.
“To me, land stewardship is about respect. It’s not just about plants and wildlife – it’s about the entire biotic community and the intricate balance that sustains us all.” She brings this philosophy to every project, combining data-driven best practices with a deep understanding of the unique needs of each property.
For Greta, Kindred is an opportunity to channel her passion for conservation into meaningful action. “There’s no greater reward than knowing the work we do today will resonate for decades – making the land healthier, more vibrant, and full of life.” In her free time, Greta enjoys upland bird hunting, fly fishing, and trail running – but nothing compares to the time she spends on the family farm with her partner, Grant, their cat Shale, and their birddog, Mouse.
